fBird was born for the Startup Expierence course, taken at Aalto University in the first year of my master studies.
It is a bird feeder with an integrated camera that recognizes the species of the birds and takes pictures of them. Users are able to see pictures and a live streaming video of the camera from the web app.
The project has seen me involved in all the aspect of the designing and production, starting from the user research, with interviews to the potential customers, to the building of the business plan pitched to investors.
We then designed and built the bird feeder with laser cut wood and integrated Raspberry Pi 4B board in it. The board runs an image recognition model, trained on local bird species, that captures images and streams videos of birds visiting through Azure Cloud. Finally, we created a web app to display all the photos taken by the feeder, and to watch the live video from the camera.
I took part in the design and production process from the very beginning to the final product, and it was one of the most satisfactory experiences I've had in this field.
